Amalfi Coast Trip
My first trip of the semester was to the Amalfi Coast. This was somewhere I had always wanted to go, but I did not think I was going to get there until just a week prior, as it can be quite difficult and expensive to get to on your own (especially if you want to hit multiple spots). A student travel company organized this trip, which was super convenient. It was also nice to have a bit of guidance on our first trip before we start traveling on our own. It was an amazing weekend, and I’m still in awe of how beautiful it is!
Our Itinerary
Thursday/Friday: Capri
We took a private bus on Thursday night from Rome to Sorrento, where we were staying for the weekend. Early Friday morning, we departed for Capri. We took a boat tour there and got to see the famous Love Rocks as well as stop to enter the Blue Grotto. When we arrived to the island, we walked up to the middle “tier” of the island and had yummy granitas, which are a specialty in Capri. From there, we took a bus up the winding roads to the top tier of the island, which is called Anacapri. There we went to the famous Carlos’ Sandal Shop, where they make customized sandals on the spot (Jackie O. was a fan). Of course I had to get a pair. Next we went to lunch at Le Arcate Pizzeria, which is known for its Lemon Shrimp Pasta, which did not disappoint. There was an option to take a solo chairlift ride over the island, but I’m not a huge fan of heights so I decided to skip that one. Instead, we walked around, browsing the cute shops and of course got gelato. Capri is famous for its limoncello, so there are lemon-themed items everywhere. When it was time to leave, we opted to walk down the hundreds of stairs down to the bottom of the island. It was a beautiful walk, but my calves were so sore the next day! We then took the ferry back to Sorrento. That night we went into downtown Sorrento for dinner. We didn’t get to explore Sorrento much except for at night, but the downtown area was very cute. We had a big group, but were able to find a table at Ristorante Fuoro. I had the gnocchi, and it was one of the best meals I have had in Italy!
Saturday: Positano
On Saturday we went to Positano. I loved Capri, but Positano was breathtaking. We took a boat there and were able to lounge out on the deck and even jumped into the water as we got close to the island. When we got there, we walked to the top to the “Instagram spot” - it’s a bit of a hike but totally worth it for the amazing views and pictures. We looked around the cute boutiques (which range from cheap to very high end) and got paninis from Vin E Panini. There was an option to sit out at the beach or rent kayaks, but I was happy to walk around and explore the island.
Sunday: Naples
On Sunday, our final day, we took the bus to Naples. We did a guided tour of Pompeii, which was definitely cool to see and learn more about. Afterwards we had the most delicious Neapolitan pizza at Pompeii Pizzeria, and set off back to Rome.
