Scribe Winery Day Trip

During the first weekend of December, my family took a day trip to Scribe Winery in Sonoma. My mom recently took out a membership to their wine club, which is required to be able to visit the winery. There are two visit options to choose from: the Knoll Picnic or the Hacienda Tasting, and reservations in advance are required. We went with the Knoll Picnic, which is located on the grassy hillside at the property. They had a really nice set-up with picnic tables, umbrellas, and festive decorations. They had also installed a gazebo covering for winter that some of the tables were under. When you check in, you’re given a basket containing a picnic blanket, wine glasses, and a wine menu. Then you’re able to choose a picnic table to sit at or spread out your picnic blanket on the grass. Only tables under the gazebo were available when we got there, so we went with one of those. Once seated at your spot, a picnic basket containing various meats, cheeses, nuts, fruits, and a baguette is delivered to your table. Then you can order a bottle of wine to go with your picnic. We chose a bottle of Chardonnay and also got to sample some of their seasonal Nouveau. The food and wine was delicious! We enjoyed our picnic and went on a walk around the winery after. It was a bit chilly in the shade under the gazebo so we were glad we had brought jackets, but when standing in the sun it was pretty warm, especially for December. 

The visits are all outdoors (even pre-COVID) but Scribe was taking all necessary precautions as well, with mask wearing and well-spaced out tables. Unfortunately all wineries in Napa have since had to shut down again, but hopefully they will be able to reopen soon. Scribe Winery is just an hour from San Francisco, so it’s perfect for a day trip...just be sure to have a designated driver!
